As a leading name in the North East since 1979, we’re celebrating our Sapphire Anniversary marking 45 years in business this June!
We’re extremely proud of our deep roots in the community; starting as a family-run business based in Middlesbrough, we’ve seen our organisation blossom into a highly reputable name for homes across the region. As we’ve developed, we’ve not only seen our highly-skilled team grow, but we’ve seen our products evolve in line with high-end modern technology, creating the finest bespoke windows, doors, and outdoor living structures with a focus on thermal efficiency, security, and performance.
To celebrate, ERW are holding a special event on the 21-23rd June – To celebrate 45 years of home transformation. Our Sapphire Open Days allow you to visit our showroom to experience firsthand the craftsmanship that defines our bespoke timber windows and doors.
Below, we take a look back at some of the key achievements we’ve accumulated over the years.
Since being founded in 1979, ERW has come a long way, facing a lot of challenges, improving with each hurdle. In celebration of 45 years in business, we’re going to be reflecting on some of the key milestones that have led us to where we are today:
1979 – The founding of ERW, initially known as Eston Replacement Windows.
1980 – The opening of our first factory in South Bank, Middlesbrough.
1982 – We opened our second factory based in Grangetown.
1987 – The launch of our first showroom on Eston High Street, allowing customers to view our range in person.
1988 – After overseeing continued growth, we expanded into our current premises – the Renovation House on Skippers Lane Industrial Estate, Middlesbrough.
1995 – ERW’s purpose-built showroom opens at Renovation House.
2000 – Completion of our first major renovation projects for Norton Hall and Wilton Castle.
2009 – Our Renovation House expands into a neighbouring factory, accompanied by the launch of our new factory finished timber windows and doors.
2018 – We underwent our largest renovation project to date – restoring and replacing windows at Auckland Castle, a vital piece of history for the country..

All your staff are very friendly, polite & efficient. We are really please with our new windows (no draught & a lot quieter). They look very smart & in keeping with our old house.
Mr & Mrs B, Stokesley
I remember visiting your showroom and saying that I wish my windows could be as good as the ones on your display and they are! I am absolutely delighted with them. They have transformed the front of my house. All installation staff involved were extremely polite and professional in their approach. They treated my home with respect and ensured that they cleaned thoroughly after. Please pass on my thanks to them for the quality of work they have done. It has been much admired by so many people, so I will not hesitate to recommend your firm in the future.
Mrs R, Stokesley
We just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that we are very happy with both our secondary glazing and the new double glazing that has very recently been fitted by ERW Joinery Ltd in our home. Despite having some reservations about the aesthetics and impact it would have on the ‘period’ of the house, we both think the windows look great. In addition to this we have already noticed that the house feels much warmer and also retains the heat for longer. I thought that the advice you gave us was excellent & the attention to detail from yourself and your workforce was so important in helping us decide about the best products. Could you also please pass on our thanks to the workforce who were professional, hardworking and above all craftsmen. We will certainly be happy to recommend your company to any of our friends who may be considering similar work.
Ms R, Darlington
We are absolutely delighted with the new windows which you have installed, which have perfectly retained the elegance of the original design. Installers were a pleasure to have in the house.
