Energy efficiency is a term that property owners are becoming more and more familiar with when it comes to choosing modern timber windows. With utility bills becoming more and more expensive, many property owners are searching for different ways that they can cut their living costs, and installing new timber windows is a fantastic way of doing so.
Sometimes, change is necessary. If you’ve not replaced your timber windows for a number of years, it may be a possibility that your property’s heat retention is suffering as a result. This is likely explained by poor energy efficiency that can come with old windows, which may not only be worn, or damaged, but may feature outdated energy efficiency measures.
As window technology advances, so do homes. In this article, we’ll be shining a light on the benefits of bringing energy efficiency to your property with modern timber windows.
Essentially, when it comes to the energy efficiency of your windows, this refers to the level of which your windows retain heat. Windows with poor energy efficiency will waste heat, resulting in property owners relying on central heating, spending more on their energy bills.
On the other hand, a building with modern timber windows would benefit from the latest energy efficiency performance measures. This would not only reduce the reliance on central heating, but would result in more comfortable living.
For home, or business owners, reducing your carbon footprint may be a priority for you, and energy efficiency is a fantastic way of doing so. Installing modern timber windows is highly beneficial for the environment, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which can also add value to your property.

Timber is a natural insulator, making it the best option when it comes to choosing energy efficient timber windows. When crafted with quality, timber reduces drafting, and heat loss, keeping your home at a consistent temperature whatever the weather.
Timber windows are also available with a range of different glazing options, meaning that you can invest in higher quality glass windows with exceptional thermal insulation properties.
If you’re an owner of a period property, or you’re looking to replace the windows of a commercial property, modern timber windows are perfect for you. Advanced glazing, such vacuum glazing, makes for revolutionary window performance, bringing outstanding energy efficiency that often has not previously been accessible for these property owners.

Sometimes for listed properties, and certain commercial buildings, double or triple glazing simply won’t cut it. Often, this is down to the thickness of these windows being too wide for heritage timber frames, preventing owners from being granted planning permission to replace or restore their windows.
Introducing vacuum glazing – the highest performing window technology revolutionising the performance of period buildings. Nearly twice as energy efficient as triple glazing, yet just as thin as a single pane of glass, vacuum glazing is the perfect way to bring modern insulation to listed properties.
Not only does vacuum glazing offer outstanding energy efficiency, but there are several other benefits to investing in these modern timber windows. If you’re looking to learn more about vacuum glazing, and how it compares to the performance of triple glazing, read our previous blog here.
When it comes to your home, you shouldn’t settle for less. Installing modern timber windows brings comfort, and kerb appeal to your property. Timber windows are the best option when it comes to thermal efficiency, and they’re also a brilliant way of enhancing the aesthetic appeal of any building.

Thank you so much for the windows and front door. They have exceeded my expectations! I was very happy with the two fitters that came, they were very professional, polite and left our house immaculate. I would definitely recommend your firm to a friend and family.
Mr & Mrs M, Eston, Middlesbrough
A superb job! We’re really delighted with all our new windows. We’d like to thank ERW very much.
The installation team of Craig, Aarron and Joe were very professional, worked well together and got on with the job efficiently to complete everything ahead of time. They were very polite and communicated well with us about the job in hand and the time scale, and we were impressed that they cleared up so well each day before leaving. We would like to thank them for all their workmanship, advice, help and good humour.
The quality of the items made off-site was very high. The 7 windows look really good, they operate well and the finish is excellent. Hopefully, next winter’s gas and electricity bills will show the benefit.
From our initial contact with Stuart and our visit to the showroom, through the technical survey by Andy and the co-ordination by Sophie and Jeff, to the final installation, we’re more than happy with the whole process. We’re so pleased that we chose ERW for our continuing efforts at improving our 115-year-old home. We will certainly come back for the final stage of work on our windows in due course.
Mr and Mrs C, Darlington
