A glass veranda adds a touch of sophistication and protection to any outdoor area. Shielding you from the elements without compromising light, it’s the perfect way to stretch out the use of your garden, well into the colder seasons. As time passes, dirt, dust, and other debris may accumulate on the glass, which can result in your veranda not looking as good as it once did. It’s really important to regularly clean and maintain your veranda to ensure it not only keeps looking beautiful, but any issues can be identified and remedied before your structure deteriorates. In this article, we’ll give you the step-by-step process of effectively cleaning your glass veranda, ensuring it remains a stunning feature of your garden.
Step 1: Gather the Necessary Cleaning Supplies
It’s really important to ensure that you have the right equipment before you begin cleaning. Some products can actually damage your veranda, such as harsh cleaning products and stiff brushes.
Step 2: Remove Loose Debris
Start by removing any loose debris, such as leaves or twigs, from the veranda’s surface. Use a soft-bristle brush or broom to sweep away these particles. This step is crucial to prevent scratching the glass during the cleaning process. It’s also the perfect opportunity to check the guttering for any obstructions.
Step 3: Prepare the Cleaning Solution
Fill a bucket with warm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap or a specialised glass cleaner. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the glass.
Step 4: Wet the Glass veranda
Rinsing your veranda with a hosepipe or spray bottle before cleaning can help loosen up stains and remove any debris which has been left behind. This means that the cleaning process will be much easier for you to complete.
Step 5: Clean the Glass
Dip a soft sponge or cleaning brush into the soapy water solution. Gently rub the glass, starting from the top and working your way down. Pay close attention to any particularly dirty areas or stubborn stains. For tough stains, you can use a non-abrasive glass cleaner directly on the affected area.
Step 6: Rinse Thoroughly
Once you have cleaned the entire glass surface, rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Use the garden hose or a spray bottle to ensure all soap residue is removed. Leaving behind soap residue can lead to streaks or spots on the glass, which can look unsightly.
Step 7: Dry the Glass
We’d recommend using a long poled squeegee to remove the excess water from the glass. Start at the top and pull down in a single motion. Wipe the squeegee blade with a lint-free cloth after each pass to prevent streaking.
Another method is to use a microfibre cloth to dry the glass by hand. Use circular motions and change your cloth when it becomes necessary, otherwise streaking may occur.
Step 8: Clean the Frame
While cleaning the glass, don’t forget to pay attention to the frame of the veranda. Use a cloth or sponge soaked in the soapy water solution to wipe down the framework, removing any dirt or grime. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
Step 9: Regular Maintenance
To keep your veranda looking its best, establish a regular cleaning routine. Ideally, clean it at least twice a year or as needed. Regularly remove debris and gently wipe the glass surface with a damp microfibre cloth to prevent build up.
This is also a great opportunity to check the frame for any dents, marks and structural damage. Leaving issues such as paint chips can result in corrosion, which will damage the integrity of the frame. Something which can be easily avoided if identified and actioned upon early.
All of our verandas at ERW come with a 10 year warranty, so in the unlikely event of there being a problem, make sure to get in touch so that we can remedy any issues.
Summary
A clean and well-maintained veranda enhances the beauty and functionality of your outdoor space. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can effectively clean your glass and frame, removing dirt and grime to restore its original beauty.
Remember to use gentle cleaning agents, avoid abrasive tools, and pay attention to both the glass surface and the supporting structure. With regular maintenance, your glass veranda will remain a stunning feature, providing a comfortable and stylish shelter for years to come.

We are absolutely delighted with the new windows which you have installed, which have perfectly retained the elegance of the original design. Installers were a pleasure to have in the house.

ERW has been a major contributor in improving the physical appearance and energy conservation in our property which sits in the middle of Stokesley’s conservation area. In four phases of design and installation since early 2018 you have helped transform our property with complete distinction.
From assistance given to lodging planning applications with Hambleton District Council through advice on window design and final installation, I can give no higher praise than commending ERW on every aspect of installation.
I first visited your showroom and workshop in the Autumn of 2017 and was impressed with the factory tour afforded me by Kirsty Semark (Customer Service Supervisor). I was convinced that ERW could provide the solution to upgrading our ageing timber windows and appreciate the help and courtesy extended from you and all your staff – many of whom I have met during our four phases of installation.
The very recent installation of a new ‘Eton’ front door enhances the front elevation with perfection.
Please convey our sincere thanks to everyone involved with the workmanship, installation and administration.
Mr U, Stokesley
We just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that we are very happy with both our secondary glazing and the new double glazing that has very recently been fitted by ERW Joinery Ltd in our home. Despite having some reservations about the aesthetics and impact it would have on the ‘period’ of the house, we both think the windows look great. In addition to this we have already noticed that the house feels much warmer and also retains the heat for longer. I thought that the advice you gave us was excellent & the attention to detail from yourself and your workforce was so important in helping us decide about the best products. Could you also please pass on our thanks to the workforce who were professional, hardworking and above all craftsmen. We will certainly be happy to recommend your company to any of our friends who may be considering similar work.
