We’re thrilled to be able to confirm that ERW has secured employment contracts for our talented team of apprentices, despite the recent announcement of the Carillion collapse.
Following the confirmation of Carillion’s liquidation last week, which effectively terminated our apprentice’s employment contracts, we have made a commitment to secure the six contracts for them to continue with their employment.
Speaking about the news, our Operations Manager, Phil Tye, said, “Immediately after the announcement from Carillion we held a meeting with our current apprentices and we have made a commitment to them that regardless of the position with Carillion, we will secure their future training and employment with ERW.
“As a company we have a long term commitment to all of our staff, including our young apprentices. We are keen to invest in the younger generation with a view of them going into full time employment within the business once they have completed their qualifications.”
Our Head of Design and Issuing, Jamie Dixon, is a prime example of our dedication to nurturing young talent. After joining the company as an apprentice, Jamie completed his studies and is now a part of the senior management team and an integral part of ERW.
“Even after the news breaking on Carillion on Monday we went ahead and interviewed a number of apprentices as we had previously planned, and we have since appointed three new apprentice’s into roles within our business” added Phil.
It has been reported that up to 1,400 apprentices could be caught up in the collapse of Carillion and 19,500 workers around the country are facing an uncertain future because of the liquidation of the company, which was announced on Monday.
“It’s an uncertain and sad time for many young people in Teesside, and we will be doing what we can to support the younger generation in skilled trades like ours. We realise as a business, where a lot of the expertise and crafts skills are among the older workforce, we must invest in the younger generation for the traditional trade’s like ours to continue to survive.”

ERW has been a major contributor in improving the physical appearance and energy conservation in our property which sits in the middle of Stokesley’s conservation area. In four phases of design and installation since early 2018 you have helped transform our property with complete distinction.
From assistance given to lodging planning applications with Hambleton District Council through advice on window design and final installation, I can give no higher praise than commending ERW on every aspect of installation.
I first visited your showroom and workshop in the Autumn of 2017 and was impressed with the factory tour afforded me by Kirsty Semark (Customer Service Supervisor). I was convinced that ERW could provide the solution to upgrading our ageing timber windows and appreciate the help and courtesy extended from you and all your staff – many of whom I have met during our four phases of installation.
The very recent installation of a new ‘Eton’ front door enhances the front elevation with perfection.
Please convey our sincere thanks to everyone involved with the workmanship, installation and administration.
Mr U, Stokesley
We were very happy with the quality of the workmanship, workforce were excellent, working non stop until job was finished. All were friendly and helpful too.
Mr & Mrs B, Middlesbrough
We just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that we are very happy with both our secondary glazing and the new double glazing that has very recently been fitted by ERW Joinery Ltd in our home. Despite having some reservations about the aesthetics and impact it would have on the ‘period’ of the house, we both think the windows look great. In addition to this we have already noticed that the house feels much warmer and also retains the heat for longer. I thought that the advice you gave us was excellent & the attention to detail from yourself and your workforce was so important in helping us decide about the best products. Could you also please pass on our thanks to the workforce who were professional, hardworking and above all craftsmen. We will certainly be happy to recommend your company to any of our friends who may be considering similar work.
Ms R, Darlington
I just wanted to send you our thanks for yet another superb installation yesterday by Dan and crew……(our ‘phase 3’). The face-lift to our property this year has been a true transformation and your installers are always so courteous and helpful. Five star service
