Vacuum glazing is an advanced technology that offers improved thermal and acoustic insulation for homes. This glazing can be installed in completely new timber framed windows, or integrated into period properties through our restoration process. Meaning that period properties can retain the charm and aesthetics of their era, whilst benefiting from groundbreaking 21st century technology.
With a thermal insulation value of less than 0.5W/m2K, our ultra slim vacuum glazing is nearly twice as efficient than triple glazing, and ten times more than single glazing. It minimises heat loss during colder months and reduces heat gain during warmer seasons. This maintains a more stable and comfortable indoor temperature, reducing the reliance on heating and cooling systems and, ultimately, lowering energy costs.
In addition to its exceptional thermal insulation properties, vacuum glazing also provides enhanced soundproofing. The vacuum layer between the glass panes acts as a buffer, effectively dampening external noise and creating a quieter indoor environment. This is especially beneficial for buildings located in busy areas or near major roads.
Vacuum glazing is as thin as a single pane of glass, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing design. This is perfect for period properties, where planning restrictions may be in place and approval from the local authority is required.

All your staff are very friendly, polite & efficient. We are really please with our new windows (no draught & a lot quieter). They look very smart & in keeping with our old house.
Mr & Mrs B, Stokesley
We just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that we are very happy with both our secondary glazing and the new double glazing that has very recently been fitted by ERW Joinery Ltd in our home. Despite having some reservations about the aesthetics and impact it would have on the ‘period’ of the house, we both think the windows look great. In addition to this we have already noticed that the house feels much warmer and also retains the heat for longer. I thought that the advice you gave us was excellent & the attention to detail from yourself and your workforce was so important in helping us decide about the best products. Could you also please pass on our thanks to the workforce who were professional, hardworking and above all craftsmen. We will certainly be happy to recommend your company to any of our friends who may be considering similar work.
Ms R, Darlington
A superb job! We’re really delighted with all our new windows. We’d like to thank ERW very much.
The installation team of Craig, Aarron and Joe were very professional, worked well together and got on with the job efficiently to complete everything ahead of time. They were very polite and communicated well with us about the job in hand and the time scale, and we were impressed that they cleared up so well each day before leaving. We would like to thank them for all their workmanship, advice, help and good humour.
The quality of the items made off-site was very high. The 7 windows look really good, they operate well and the finish is excellent. Hopefully, next winter’s gas and electricity bills will show the benefit.
From our initial contact with Stuart and our visit to the showroom, through the technical survey by Andy and the co-ordination by Sophie and Jeff, to the final installation, we’re more than happy with the whole process. We’re so pleased that we chose ERW for our continuing efforts at improving our 115-year-old home. We will certainly come back for the final stage of work on our windows in due course.
Mr and Mrs C, Darlington
